How Mup was born

Four years ago ...

18, knees bruised from my latest skateboarding attempt, kicking back on my bed in my messy dorm room, I open a word doc because this idea, this kid, comes to mind. Loud, adventurous, brave. This kid loves everything to do with dinosaurs, the natural world, and isn’t afraid to roll around in the dirt.

But she also hates reading.

That kid was me.

So there I was, sitting in front of my computer brainstorming. I asked myself, well what if I made a story that kid like me would have actually read?

And that’s the moment Mup was born.

I dedicated my four years at Loyola Marymount University school of Film and Television for the exploration and development of the idea that would turn into my first graphic novel for kids, MUP, and I’m so excited to finally be able to share it with the world.

I grew up so much during this project not only as a storyteller and artist, but I realize now that my own characters taught me along the way as well. Taught me to stay true to myself and this is what I hope my readers will find as well.

In one week, on Thursday, October 22, Mup will become available for everyone to see!

It is the greatest honor as a storyteller to be able to share my stories and characters with others and I just hope that MUP finds its way into all your hearts the way it has with me.
